DANCE FOR GREEN GATHERING: 14 HOURS FOR 14 YEARS!

February 17, 2025

We love a good bop at The Green Gathering - so what better way to raise some funds than a 14 hour dance-a-thon?!

Last year, Green Gathering coordinator Jessica Rost and director Em Weirdigan led a successful dance-a-thon, raising over £1000 for Medecins Sans Frontiere, and now they’re planning to do it again - this time to raise funds for our fabulous gathering.

On April 12th Jess and Em will be dancing from 12noon until 2am the next day. Please support us if you can.

The solar-powered Green Gathering (31 July-3 August) is 14 years old, having been on its glorious Chepstow site since 2011. It’s time for a teenage rampage so we’re going to dance non-stop (apart from the odd costume change) for 14 hours. And if we exceed the crowdfund target we'll dance on into the night - another hour for every £100 raised over £1400, up to 18 hours!

Officially recognised as the 'Greenest' festival in the land at the UK Festival Awards, Green Gathering is the UK's original off-grid, grassroots festival. It's a four day exploration of low-impact living - filled with music, arts, activism, spoken word, crafts and so much more.

Many small festivals struggled last year, and some have disappeared completely because of the challenging financial landscape. The Green Gathering, like so many independent venues and events, needs money to cover costs and to continue its excellent work. It's now more important than ever to create spaces for people to come together in community, learn about alternative ways to live, share skills and enjoy each other's company and creativity.

We want to boost Green Gathering’s mission to provide an environment where creativity can be applied to ecological and social dilemmas in a tapestry of skill-sharing and entertainment, all powered by sun, people and passion. The money we crowdfund by dancing will go to support the artists, performers, workshops, stages and infrastructure of the festival, with 10% going to the Dance-a-thon host Ashbank Arts.

Around half of what we raise will go towards The Uncommon, a new venue invented and created last year by Rost Productions, which will again host very creative and quirky happenings. Ashbank Arts workers’ cooperative will use its 10% to support the excellent off-grid workshops and artist development space at Ashbank Farm. The remainder will be used in wise and wonderful ways to ensure the Green Gathering community has a most excellent time the first weekend in August!

"We know Green Gathering provides a regenerative space as well as a chance to grow a kinder, more sustainable world - and we want to be part of making sure that can continue."

So many good things to dance for!

Please help by putting into the crowd funder, share what we’re doing, and wish us luck on the dancefloor…
