Last year the creative, carnivalesque Uncommon exceeded expectations - and this year it's going to be even better!
Tucked into the trees by the ruined mansion house there'll be participatory workshops for all ages, street theatre and cabaret performances, art installations, open mic, live music with a punk / protest / experimental vibe, and a fantastical night-time dance space.
Our Uncommon theme this year will be Marvelous Menagerie: a bringing together of diverse beings, a weaving of creativity, and a welcoming, safe space for all the wild creatures. There'll be an extraordinary parade, puppetry, and a network of storytelling nests... t may be anarchic, it could get rather surreal, it will definitely be thought-provoking.
Watch out for announcements throughout the year!
Every afternoon there’ll be participatory, family-friendly activities as well as quiet spaces to sit and chat and chill and reflect. The Uncommon’s crew of artists, travellers, activists and expert makers have plenty of experience creating larger-than-life structures for parades and marches.
They’ll be encouraging people to get stuck in to making props and costumes to feature in a Sunday carnival parade around the whole site. A campfire to gather around and affordable bar will lend a village feel to The Uncommon.
Early evening there’ll be live music and cabaret, culminating in an explosion of multi-genre dance music with diverse djs... chance to dance the night away under the stars, surrounded by trees.
Coordinated by Jessica Rost: bender-dwelling sculptor, welder, artist, activist, weaver of dreams, builder of bicycle-powered chariots, danceathon champion and lover of outdoor baths...Jess invites you to enter her delightful, disorientating world; to play, perform, cast aside inhibitions, and dance, dance, dance!
The Uncommon: you definitely don’t want to miss it.
