THE UNCOMMON

YOU ARE INVITED TO DISCOVER
THE UNCOMMON

At The Green Gathering this year you’ll be invited to take a stroll up to The Uncommon, our newest quirky venue, where you’ll discover creative and carnivalesque activities day and night beside the ruined mansion house and tucked in between trees. Be ready to show your credentials at The Uncommon Border Control!

Once across the border you might get involved in all kinds of things you’ve never explored before. You could start out making a giant puppet and end up participating in an outdoor show. Or find yourself on the Open Mic stage, telling stories by the fire, dancing to a punk band, or watching wild street theatre... it may be anarchic, it could get rather surreal, it will definitely be thought-provoking.

Later, linger at the illuminated heart shaped sculpture known as The Return, then tune in to the music.

Walkabout characters will be based at The Uncommon, making forays out around the festival to lure folk back to get involved. Some you may have seen at previous Green Gatherings - Eva the Polar Bear, Pockets of Resistance, the Synchronised Land Swimmers, Fix Tinkers and more. Now you get to interact with them at home, in their forest hideaway!

Every afternoon there’ll be participatory, family-friendly activities as well as quiet spaces to sit and chat and chill and reflect. The Uncommon’s crew of artists, travellers, activists and expert makers have plenty of experience creating larger-than-life structures for parades and marches.

They’ll be encouraging people to get stuck in to making props and costumes to feature in a Sunday carnival parade around the whole site. A campfire to gather around and affordable bar will lend a village feel to The Uncommon.

Early evening there’ll be live music and cabaret, culminating in an explosion of multi-genre dance music with diverse djs... chance to dance the night away under the stars, surrounded by trees.

Coordinated by Jessica Rost: bender-dwelling sculptor, welder, artist, activist, weaver of dreams, builder of bicycle-powered chariots, danceathon champion and lover of outdoor baths...Jess invites you to enter her delightful, disorientating world; to play, perform, cast aside inhibitions, and dance, dance, dance!

The Uncommon: you definitely don’t want to miss it.
