THEATRE OF THE ANCIENTS

Theatre of the Ancients is a performance company based on the island of Ibiza, Spain, specialising in puppetry, mask theatre and arcane visual storytelling traditions. They create diverse, ritualistic interventions inspired by the history, traditional culture and folklore of the landscapes beneath our feet. Their work is rooted in story and myth, and in constant pursuit of the sacred. They consider themselves to be weaving a path of ecological and cultural activism, via an allegiance with beauty.

Theatre of the Ancients develops multi-disciplinary work spanning walkabout theatre, performance art, storytelling, ritual theatre and immersive theatre. They have performed in theatres, city streets, fields, caves and forests. They explore participatory and community-driven practices, and are committed to contributing to regenerative culture on Ibiza, and beyond, in times of climate collapse.

At GG 24 you'll see three giant puppets called the Myth Walkers - a set of human and non-human deities which are rooted in the ancient, ancestral landscapes of Great Britain (my native homeland). The Myth Walkers wander, roam, play, dance and interact with whomever they find - even though they retain a certain unreachable mystery.
